For the series The Human Colour Wheel 38 colour wheels were constructed using various materials, These wheels are partly inspired on Newton’s colour wheel, and other basic principles of colour theory, as well as Mater's own principles. While rotating, the colour wheels were photographed with a long exposure time. As the wheel spins, the colours reflect light and blur together over time; the film records a mix of all colours. Looking for the right construction to mix the colours on the disc to form white. Isaac Newton, discovered that white light, when passed through a prism, splits into the visible spectrum. His circle contained seven colours, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. This work is a companion project to The Wheels.
