In the series Density Drawings Mater constructs an image by layering multiple moments in time. During the making of a drawing, she shoots exposures at different moments during the process on the same negative, physically building up an image on the negative, as the drawing simultaneously blacks out becoming a monochrome. This is a cross-exchange of visual information between the paint on the paper and the film in the camera, over time a photographically complex image evolves and two disciplines become inextricably interwoven. The resulting image is something that is impossible to see with the human eye, that only became visible by photographing it in this way.
